Jorge Posada (Colombia)
Jorge Posada is a painter, sculptor, print-maker and photographer who lives and works in New York for nearly 30 years. After his academic training in his native city Medellin, Colombia, he received the prestigious first prize at the National Saloon of Young Art at the Antioquia Museum of Art. Soon after he was invited to exhibit his work in New York for the first time.
Posada has earned awards from prestigious institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogota, Colombia and the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Daytona, Florida. He was awarded a six year scholarship at the Lower East Side Print Shop in New York and an Honorable Mention at Expresiones Hispanas Art tour USA. His artwork was showcased on Channel 13 in the documentary The New Immigrants. He created and painted on site a 1.500 sq ft mural Homage to the Arts at the Ritz Theater in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Posada’s art has evolved into a semi-figurative depiction of the body: a cross between figuration and abstraction. He works by series in a mixed-media of charcoal, acrylic and oil on canvas and paper which address the human form in motion. In his compositional structures Posada creates a tension between the body fragments which are embedded into colors, textures and carefully applied transparencies. He places them in a pictorial geography occupied by arrows which he uses as a metaphor for the action of going blindly in every direction.
Currently Posada divides his time between New York, Medellin and Antwerp, Belgium where he has started a new series of paintings and drawings as an homage to the masters from whom he draws inspiration. His artwork has been published in several art books and is in major private and public collections in the USA, Europe, Japan and Latin America.
