Enrique Daussat (Cuba)
From an adolescent age, Enrique dreamed of leaving his rural settings and living the urban life of Habana. When Enrique visited Habana initially, he was enthralled by the high density of people and buildings which would later be incorporated into his artworks following his education. Daussat’s portraits are deeply rooted in our sensual freedom; the liberty to express our natural selves. Living within a suppressed, persecuted and stigmatized LGBT community in Cuba, Daussat accentuates women features as a symbol of sexual oppression.
Enrique graduated from the academic art institute of Raul Sanchez of Pinar del Rio in 1972. Having been a quick learner and highly gifted, Daussat began teaching as a fine arts professor from 1974 to 1992. When he became an independent artist, Enrique began a journey to capture the stories of individuals and buildings through his richly textured portraits and landscapes. The female subjects he chooses are incorporated with large eyes and necks, exaggerating the sensual nature of the female body.
Daussat has 28 years of professional experience and aside from participating in top literary competitions as a poet, continues to be an independent artist for the Cuban Cultural Property Fund.
